■概要 Summary
While the board game culture is blooming around the world, it is noticable, that this culture centers in the Western countries: at the market American and European manufacturers competing with each other and also in the media studies these two are the base of the board game definitions and research (Woods, 2012; Arnaudo, 2024). Meanwhile in the world of video games – which is closely related to board games – Asia, more importantly Japan is one of the biggest factor. In my in-progress research so far I carried out a comparative study between Western and Japanese board games through content analysis covering 74 titles using the main literature of this field, like work of Paul Booth, Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman. I argue that, within the realm of board games, the ”Japanese-style” game can be defined by its specific attributes. In my presentation, I will introduce these attributes and the methodology used to identify them.
