■概要 Summary
This presentation begins with the concept of “fun” in the work of the anarchist anthropologist David Graeber, and his theory, drawn from the work of the anarchist naturalist Peter Kropotkin, that fun is evolutionarily or biologically intrinsic to life. After contrasting this sense of fun to the neo-Darwinian synthesis of figures such as Richard Dawkins, I turn my attention to the question of fun in game studies. My argument is that not only is academic game studies not usually fun, but also academic game studies tends to avoid the video games that are most obviously fun. The remainder of the presentation is dedicated to the Pikmin Series, especially Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 4, holding them up as ideal games to use to study fun in contemporary video games.
