Metal Gear Solid and Gaming Culture: Tracking Cultural Transitions in Social Media Data.

概要 abstract

My presentation is going to discuss the opportunities of researching Social Media data, which is part of my PhD project. This will be demonstrated on the Metal Gear franchise, which as well as its fans is currently going through a transitional process after the series’ creator Hideo Kojima parted ways with rightholder Konami.

After briefly discussing the fundamental considerations of my research, I will move on to discuss its technological dimension. Using a rather simple examplary problem, I intend to elaborate on the possibilities of a Mixed Methods approach. Admittedly, the focus in this presentation is more on technologies. But I am confident that the discussion of an extensible toolchain that potentially can be used for a variety of applications will compensate for this.

This research was acquired within the diggr-project, which started in 2017 and is conducted in cooperation with University Library Leipzig. The project’s aim is to explore data-diven approaches to gaming culture.
