■概要 Summary

In this lecture I will outline the process of successfully designing boardgames for crowd funding platforms. At the heart of this process is an emphasis on creating a compelling fiction or fantasy that can be communicated clearly before, during and after the crowdfunding campaign and whose promise is consistent with the actual game experience when played. The lecture will draw on my experience designing and publishing six games and running ten successful Kickstarter campaigns, as well as a wealth of knowledge gathered from five years of interviews with leading boardgame designers and critics that culminated in a monography from MIT Press titled: Unboxed: Board Game Experience and Design. Unboxed focuses on the analysis and design of player experience in boardgames and will act as the theoretical backdrop for the design process I will be outlining during the lecture. The lecture will also situate the points made in a pragmatic post-mortem of my most recent game, Fateforge: Chronicles of Kaan, tracing its journey from initial idea through its design and development process, its crowdfunding campaign and its final stage of production and publication.
