Rather than viewing genre history as a succession of isolated innovations, it conceptualizes horror games as a family whose members inherit, transform, and reactivate shared traits across generations. Within this lineage, microhorror emerges as a distinctive and revealing descendant. Emerging during the independent horror revival of the 2010s, short horror games simultaneously extend the genre and preserve its memory. Reviving obsolete aesthetics, mechanics, and forms from early gaming history, they transform retro technologies, childhood memories, and familial anxieties into uncanny experiences that foreground the repressed remnants of video game history.

Talk 2: For this presentation, I would like to examine horror video games from Japan in terms of their intermedial and transnational dimensions. The aim is to analyze the transmedia aesthetics of Japanese horror video games, such as the Resident Evil (Biohazard), Silent Hill or Fatal Frame (Zero) series, particularly in their close relationship with cinema and inside the media mix marketing strategies, while also exploring their transcultural imagery through the tensions at play between the imaginary constructs of “Japan” and “the West.”

来る2026年10月27日(火曜日)、立命館大学ゲーム研究センターによる2026年度第8回定例研究会を実施致します。発表者は、Bernard Perron氏およびMartin Picard氏です。お誘 続きを読む…

[2,3

post-3604","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-event","category-seminar
["GET
