This presentation investigates the intersection of game design practice with immersive theatre in the creation of&nbsp;1881, commissioned by Malta&#8217;s national theatre as an intervention in the medium. Drawing on two decades of research into immersion in digital games,&nbsp;1881&nbsp;incorporates narrative branching, character alignment mechanics, and puzzle design to foster genuine audience agency and sustained environmental habitation.
