Regularly playing mobile games could improve several cognitive functions of the player. And engagement is one of the key factors that determines mobile game’s effectiveness as a therapeutic instrument for the player with cognitive impairment or dementia. Engagement measures the person’s focus, immersion, and involvement in a certain activity. The concept of engagement is derived from flow theory. Flow is a subjective state when people are completely involved in an activity–so gratifying that they are willing to do it for their own sake. While flow is a concept of understanding immersion\u2019s dynamics, another concept called game feel is more focused on the interactivity of attaining the flow. And juice refers to a design concept to intensify such interactivity. Juice effects are design concepts to augment the interactivity of user interaction. It is done by showing excessive amounts of feedback in response to user input. Medium and high levels of juice effects lead to a better experience, motivation, playtime, and in-game performance compared to the extreme and the absent ones. While a certain degree of juice effects could improve a player’s engagement, there is a possibility that such degree may be different for the older player with cognitive impairment or dementia.
