Deadline, September 30th, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ritsumeikan Center for Game Studies (RCGS) is pleased to announce the publication of the 3rd issue of the new academic journal <em>Replaying Japan,<\/em> which covers a wide range of topics around Japanese videogames, gaming culture and related media. We are interested in contributions from researchers, developers and practitioners in related areas for what will be the 3rd issue of <em>Replaying Japan<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Journal of <em>Replaying Japan Vol. 3<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Theme of the Journal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research on videogames, game culture and related media in Japan or related to Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Expected contributors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Researchers and developers interested in videogames, gaming\nculture and related media associated with Japan. <\/li><li>Researchers and developers interested more generally in\nAsian game culture that is connected to Japan.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Categories of Submissions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We accept three types of submissions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Original Research Articles:<\/strong><ul><li>Papers presenting new research with academic or technical value. These are to be peer reviewed following a double-blind process.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Research Notes, Commentary and Reviews:<\/strong><ul><li>Activity reports, research proposals, commentary and reviews with academic or technical value. These are reviewed by the Editors.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Translations:<\/strong><ul><li>Translations into English of important Japanese articles or documents. Translations should be prefaced with a short critical introduction that contextualizes the original. These are reviewed by the Editors.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Editors will invite submissions from distinguished developers and practitioners which will be editorially reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Language<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Japanese or English<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Submission deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wednesday, September 30th, 2020 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. Scheduled publication<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>March 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7. Research Paper Formatting Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The main text of the paper should be\nlimited to 7,000 words for English, or up to 16,000 characters for Japanese\n(references are not counted).<\/li><li>Japanese manuscripts should also have\nan English title and abstract.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><li>The abstract should be no more than 300 words in\nlength.<\/li><li>For the bibliographic format of\nreferences, the manuscript should follow the formatting rules of the Chicago\nManual of Style (17th ed., Author-Date style).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8. Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Submissions need to be original\nworks that have not been published elsewhere. In certain cases we will accept\nsubmissions that are translations of papers important to the field.<\/li><li>Authors need to adhere to the\nappropriate format and deadlines.<\/li><li>Authors need to secure copyright\nclearance for any copyrighted materials included other than short quotations.\nThe author will be responsible for securing a copyright license for longer\ntranslations.<\/li><li>In the manuscript, specify the name\nof the author(s), affiliation, job title, and e-mail address.<\/li><li>The manuscript should be submitted\nin MS Word format via e-mail to the address below.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>9. Other information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Editors in Chief (Japanese and\nEnglish), in consultation with the Editorial Board, will make the final decision\nof acceptance for all manuscripts.<\/li><li>In the case of papers, the editors\nwill make an initial determination as to whether the submission fits the\nmission of <em>Replaying Japan<\/em>. Papers\nthat do fit will then be reviewed following a double-blind process where both\nthe author\u2019s name and reviewers\u2019 names are secret. <\/li><li>Editors may request that the\nauthor(s) revise the manuscript.<\/li><li>Unless there are special\nrestrictions, all articles will be published in print and also be published on\nthe Internet through the Ritsumeikan University institutional repository.
