submissions to the 7th issue of the academic journal <em>Replaying Japan,<\/em> which covers a wide range of topics around Japanese videogames, gaming culture and related media and invites contributions from researchers, developers and practitioners working in related areas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this issue, the editorial committee will particularly welcome proposals on the subjects of preservation, innovation and new directions in Japanese game studies. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>______________________________&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Replaying Japan Journal Vol. 7<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Theme of the Journal<\/strong>: Research on videogames, game culture and related media in Japan or related to Japan.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Expected contributors<\/strong>: &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Researchers and developers interested in videogames, gaming culture and related media associated with Japan.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Researchers and developers interested more generally in Asian game culture that is connected to Japan.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Categories of Submissions:<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>We accept three types of submissions: &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Original Research Articles<\/strong>:&nbsp;<br>Papers presenting new research with academic or technical value. These are to be peer reviewed following a double-blind process.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research Notes, Commentary and Reviews<\/strong>:&nbsp;<br>Activity reports, research proposals, commentary and reviews with academic or technical value. These are reviewed by the Editors.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Translations<\/strong>:&nbsp;<br>Translations into English of important Japanese articles or documents. Translations should be prefaced with a short critical introduction that contextualizes the original. These are reviewed by the Editors.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Editors will invite submissions from distinguished developers and practitioners which will be editorially reviewed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Language<\/strong>: Japanese or English&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Submission deadline<\/strong>: September 22nd, 2024 (JST)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>Scheduled publication<\/strong>: March, 2025&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>Paper Formatting Guidelines and Requirements<\/strong>: &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Original Research Articles should be limited to 7,000 words for English, or up to 16,000 characters for Japanese (references are not counted).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research Notes, Commentary and Reviews should be limited to 3000 words for English, or up to 7000 characters for Japanese (references are not counted).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An English language title and abstract are required for Japanese manuscripts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A Japanese language title and abstract are highly encouraged for English manuscripts.<\/span>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The abstract should be no more than 300 words in length for English, and no more than 700 characters in Japanese.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the bibliographic format of references, the manuscript should follow the formatting rules of the Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed., Author-Date style.)&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>Submission Guidelines<\/strong>: &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Submissions need to be original works that have not been published elsewhere. We will, however, accept submissions of translations of papers important to the field.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authors need to adhere to the appropriate format and deadline (<a href=\"http:\/\/replaying.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/PapersFormatRJ6_en.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">English<\/a>\/<a href=\"http:\/\/replaying.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/PapersFormatRJ6_ja.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Japanese<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authors need to secure copyright clearance for any copyrighted materials included other than short quotations. The author will be responsible for securing a copyright license for longer translations.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the manuscript, specify the name of the author (s), affiliation, job title, and e-mail address.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The manuscript should be submitted in MS Word format via e-mail to the address below.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authors are required to proofread and copyedit their articles and will be held responsible for upholding a standard of language quality that befits academic articles before submitting the final version of their article. The editorial board will not conduct language-related editing or thorough proofreading.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"9\">\n<li><strong>Other information<\/strong>: &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>The Editors in Chief (Japanese and English), in consultation with the Editorial Board, will make the final decision of acceptance for all manuscripts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>For papers the editors will make an initial determination of whether the submission fits the mission of Replaying Japan. Papers that do will then be reviewed following a double-blind process where both the author\u2019s name and reviewers\u2019 names are secret.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\">\n<li>Editors may request that the author(s) revise the manuscript.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\">\n<li>Unless there are special restrictions, all articles will be published in print and also be published on the Internet through the Ritsumeikan University institutional repository. The articles will be published with a \u201cCC BY 4.0 (Display 4.0 International)\u201d license.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\">\n<li>The Journal of Replaying Japan expects submitting authors to take responsibility for the text they submit however it was prepared. We understand that authors may draw on digital assistants from grammar checkers to generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, but we expect the final text to be original and to have been edited by the author. We do not accept generative AIs as co-authors as they do not fit our notion of an author. We recognize that there may be situations where authors may want to quote text generated from an AI, use an illustration generated by a text-to-image AI, or use a generative AI as part of their methodology.
